My Hidden Talent

Your Hidden Talent
You have the natural talent of rocking the boat, thwarting the system. And while this may not seem big, it can be.It's people like you who serve as the catalysts to major cultural changes. You're just a bit behind the scenes, so no one really notices.

DAR

OK, I make quilts, I knit, I am a member of the DAR and I train in martial arts...as my mother and I discussed today, I am a little quirky! Anyway...I attended a lunch meeting today of the Franklinton chapter of the DAR. No, this is not the chapter I am a member of...that would be the Hetuck chapter. However, the Franklinton chapter meetings are 10 minutes from my office, while the Hetuck chapter meetings are 1 to 1 1/2 hours from my office. They are a little difficult to get to. This meeting today was really fun! I didn't expect it to be fun. Educational, patriotic, full of old ladies, these are what I expected. Instead, I was greeted very warmly and introduced around to quite a few of the ladies attending, and sort of adopted by one very very nice lady. It was fun! The program was entertaining, the food was ok. It was fun!

Also on the DAR front, I am very happy and very proud that my mother has been elected Regent (president) of the John Edwards chapter (Mexico City). Congratulations Mom!

Nota Bene Pt. I

Our postcard exchange group has decided to name ourselves Nota Bene -- a pretty high standard to live up to! But judging by the cards I have received to date, it's a standard that the gang seems to be able to meet and exceed! Here are photos of the cards I have received to date.

Aren't they beautiful! Great work ladies!

My cards are still in various stages of development...anywhere from in my head or in my sketchbook, to just waiting to get a back on, addressed and mailed. This has been a really fun project, and it looks like the group is planning to plan future exchanges as well!

Hogan Knows Best

What is it about this show that sucks me in? Anyone who knows me knows that I have very little time to watch TV at all. And when I do have time, I am most likely to watch a movie, either on TV or on DVD. I only have one show that I watch regularly (Desparate Housewives)...So when VH1 has a Hogan Knows Best marathon, why do I sit down and watch it? Is it just so that I will have time to work on this?

Ahh, the Lacy Stole...I thought it might be done for Spring wearing. But spring came and went, and the stole was not done! So I put it aside for other projects and as summer progressed the Lacy Stole has reappeared and occupied almost all of my knitting time. The color in this picture is not true -- it should be more mauve than purple. I am still getting the hang of this digital picture taking thing...

I think that Hogan Knows Best entertains me because it is so goofy. This is a family of extroverts who do not have to deal with the same reality as you and I. So things get a little crazy around their house! And it only requires about a quarter of my attention. This makes it great to watch while making lace!

Panda Cam

Yes, Panda Cam -- a break from the horrible images coming from New Orleans and Mississippi. Only, don't look if you haven't yet made a donation to a relief effort!

Tecumseh

I went with Kyle's 4th grade class to see Tecumseh! last night (for the 3rd year in a row!) I was impressed as always with the staging -- it really is a neat production in a natural outdoor amphitheatre. And I am always impressed at the bravery of the teachers bringing 100 or more students to the production! (There were 4 or 5 school groups there, in addition to Kyle's school.) It does make a late night for the kids -- the show is over at 10:45 pm and it is about an hour and a half drive home. But Kyle really loved it, and it is a great combination of local history and drama, so it's all worth it!
